Competency Demonstration Report (CDR)

What is a CDR ?

Competency Demonstration Report or generally called CDR is a documented testimony, that is an essential requirement by the ENGINEERS AUSTRALIA (Assessing body for engineering related professions) for the assessment of different occupations under engineering.

Why CDR is Required ?

There are in total 32 occupations with multiple alternative titles those are assessed by Engineers Australia (EA). Any Candidate whose education and employment is related to one of the occupations falling under the 32 engineering related occupations and is willing to apply for General Skilled Migration Visa for Australia has to go for the Migration-Skills-Assessment, that would be done by the Engineers Australia. As per Australia New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupation (ANZSCO), these professions are categorized in different major, minor and unit groups, each having a specific set of job duties. To do the Migration-Skills-Assessment, Engineers Australia demands for a CDR that will have a detailed information regarding your education, work and job duties in the form of career episodes consisting of detailed documentation regarding the tasks handled by you during your education and work span. CDR will be an illustration of your education and knowledge related to your field and it helps the assessor to judge your capabilities and assess you as per Australian Quality Framework (AQF).

Dos & Don'ts while writing your CDR

Present Your Competencies and Skills Properly

By CDR, Engineers Australia actually wants to analyze your competencies and their similarity with the ANZSCO Occupation Code opted by you. so make a detailed list of what you have done , your core skills, competencies for each Career Episode. Be sure to check the similarity of your competencies with the Job duties prescribed for your profile as per Australian Quality Framework and mentioned in ANZSCO database. Also follow the Engineers Australia's Migration Help book for detailed Info.

Be Specific & Focused:

Engineers Australia wants to know about your thought process, plans, actions, your competencies and your own work details done in a particular project. So instead of writing the generic things regarding the technology domain, Merits Demerits, Benefits to Society or Client etc, be focused to project and your role in it during its development, Installation, Commissioning, other deployment activities, Maintenance, Servicing or Repair. A generalized Career Episode, is rejected or is asked for revision most of the times.

Style and Language

Write it in a way that it is personal, simple and clear. Try to write in active voice throughout the Career Episode. As EA is not going to assess the project team but your skills and competencies only so prefer "I" over "We". Your actions should meet the competency elements and you have to mention this in your CPD and summary statement, so every paragraph that you will write in Career Episodes must have relation to the Engineering Competencies specified for your work profile.

Plagiarism Check in Your CDR Content

All the content that you will provide in any section of your CDR should be your own work, as the plagiarism is not allowed and will be considered as the most appropriate reason for rejection of your CDR. So avoid copying the data from previously submitted CDRs, Sample CDR provided on various online portals, direct copying of data from reference papers, books etc. As all your CDR work will be checked using the advanced Plagiarism Check Tools, so we recommend you to check it on most competitive plagiarism check platforms, before submitting it to Engineers Australia.
